Expectation can be a cruel mistress… By the high standards these live pioneers have set for themselves, this gig certainly wasn’t a vintage performance. At times they seemed to be struggling to sustain the euphoric peaks that usually come easily, particularly when playing songs from their most recent album. But every time the momentum seemed lost, they did manage to dig deep and pull out a moment of absolute majesty, entrapping their faithful following in rapturous abandon, and reminding us all of exactly why a British Sea Power gig will always be a thing to be treasured.
