Anne Boleyn

I’ve been itching to see a meaty, involving and vibrant play for a while now. Thankfully, English Touring Theatre’s production of Anne Boleyn has ticked all the boxes.

Howard Brenton’s historical drama is peppered with dry wit concerning the fluctuating relationship between Monarchy and Religion. And if that sounds a little dry for your tastes then, out of a stunning cast, two outstanding performances from Jo Herbert (in the title role) and James Garnon as a gay, borderline-psychotic James I of England will help wash it down.
The set and the unobtrusive, yet at times sinister live musical accompaniment, round off a great production. Well worth seeing.
