Revitalise, rest, repeat

Yoga for all… especially those who don’t think they can!

For someone who has had little or no expereince of yoga, walking into a room full of well established yogis folding in half, balancing on their hands with their legs in the air and performing back crabs can be somewhat intimidating. Even the salute to the sun warm-ups would challenge the average fitness enthusiast to begin with.

The good news, is that not all classes are like this. Head to Revitalise and you will find an array of classes suitable for all levels and abilities, including Mysore, Ashtanga, Vinyasa Flow, Yin Yang, Pregnancy and Hatha, as well as classes just for beginners. Hurray!

All classes are kept to small numbers with high levels of teacher interaction offering modifications and adjustments where needed, so you can relax knowing you are in safe hands and in a room of students at a similar level to you.

If you find a beginner yoga class is too much for you to start with, then I would strongly recommend trying pilates – there are less positions that put weight on the wrists, for example, and understanding how to engage your core and lengthen your spine would be a great starting point before moving onto a beginner yoga class.

Attend regular classes, and you will be amazed at how quickly you observe changes in your body awareness and alignment, mobility and flexibility, strength and stamina. As you then begin to develop the breath and movement connection you will naturally start to close off the mind, enhance concentration and increase focus which has the desired meditative affect.

With regular practice, you can progress onto more challenging styles of yoga such as Vinyasa Flow, Ashtanga and Mysore, where the positions you never thought were possible start to become achievable, and it’ll be you in those classes folding in half and performing back crabs!
